Reduce Setup in Low Profile Applications with New Quick Change Unilock Clamping Chuck
Elk Grove Village, IL - BIG KAISER Precision Tooling Inc. introduces the new Quick Change Clamping Chuck from Unilock for low profile applications in water. The new 150mm x 100mm clamping chuck combines all of the popular features of the BIG KAISER Unilock Clamping System to reduce setup time and part-processing time.
While only 40mm tall, the zero-point chuck accepts the same clamping knob as chucks almost twice its height. It is the ideal solution for environments where limited travel range creates a problem with overall stack height.
Compatibility and rigidity are achieved by utilizing the same clamping knob and ram system as larger BIG KAISER Unilock chucks. The system's standard 40mm clamping knob can be attached directly to workpieces or fixtures with up to a 12mm thread. The easily mounted clamping knob provides affordable accuracy and rigidity.
The availability of the large retention thread relative to the chuck's small size is useful for high-torque applications. Gerard Vacio, BIG KAISER's Workholding Systems Product Manager explains, "The 150 x 100 (mm) is also made out of stainless steel and has an integrated mounting pattern to support many existing wire EDM tables. Waterjet users will also find it useful as a zero-point clamping system."
This unique chuck can accept Unilock clamping knobs from the top or bottom side, allowing parts to be flipped upside down. The accurate positioning of better than .0002" repeatable TIR is backed by high rigidity through the use of spring-based mechanical clamping. An air pressure boost can be added to increase spring clamping force of more than 30 percent.
The BIG KAISER Unilock Workholding System provides a solution for two of the manufacturing industry's toughest setup problems: repeatability of location from one workpiece blank to another, and transfer of work from one machine tool to another. It enhances accuracy and provides greater quality by eliminating inconsistency of workpiece loading and unloading.
A workpiece reference location need only be established once. Alignments for the chuck are established from its center line, and that data can be captured electronically and kept in the machine's CNC program. Work can then be moved through several stages of processing without having to relocate the reference point. This stainless steel, low-profile chuck allows more departments and processes to utilize the BIG KAISER Unilock Zero-Point Clamping System to slash time and money from production costs while improving accuracy.
BIG KAISER Precision Tooling is a leader in high precision tooling systems and solutions.
