A New Turnkey Solution for Precision Boring of an Enormous Range

We’re highlighting yet another new product this week that makes high performance and precision easier. The newest ready-to-go finish boring kit from KAISER provides everything you need to tool up for boring jobs in an extraordinary range of diameters, Ø.700”-6.000” with just one head!

The kit is based around the EWN 2-50XL, which previously used center-mount boring bars to cover a max Ø2.125”, and an outboard insert holder clamped to the side of the head covered Ø3.150”-6.000”. This left a significant gap of over Ø1” that could not be covered, and an additional head from the 310 series was needed to fulfill the full bore range to Ø6”.

To make this new range possible with just one boring head, the engineers at KAISER came up with a new, rigid, dynamic center-mounted boring bar/insert holder capable of maintaining consistent precision throughout its full range. The gap in coverage for the EWN 2-50XL had finally been solved, and a new kit was born that offered nearly a $2,000 savings!

The EWN 2-50XL boring head features adjustments of Ø.0002”/div, and a Vernier scale allows for further adjustment precision of Ø.00005”. Coolant through is standard with a max pressure of 300 PSI. When using the outboard insert holders – an included coolant nozzle inserts to the center of the head for direct coolant delivery to the cutting edge. The same outboard insert holders can simply be assembled in reverse to permit back boring.

The tooling and carefully selected accessories come stored in a molded plastic carrying case with foam inlay to keep the components organized and to protect the instruments when not in use. A 10-pack of carbide-coated TC11 inserts with a .016” nose radius are also included – our recommended choice for fine boring of general steel and cast iron. The only necessary item not included is the shank, which must be purchased separately. Simply select the shank that matches the taper of your machine spindle, and with the gauge length that you require.

Purchasing the kit provides considerable savings over what the boring head and accessories cost when ordered separately. If needed, the kit is expandable for deep hole boring with carbide bars and diameters as small as .080″, and additional accessories can be ordered for super-fine balancing, OD turning and chamfering.
